Canada Soccer has announced Jesse Marsch as the new head coach for the Men’s National Team (CANMNT), effective immediately. Marsch’s contract runs through July 2026 and includes leading the team in the 2024 Copa America, the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Extensive Search and Rigorous Selection Process
Kevin Blue, CEO and General Secretary of Canada Soccer, stated that Marsch’s appointment followed a thorough search and consultation process. Marsch will prepare Canada for the 2024 Copa America, starting with a match against defending FIFA World Cup champions Argentina on June 20, 2024. Preparation for Copa America and Friendlies Against Top Teams
Marsch will also lead Canada in friendlies against the Netherlands and France on June 6 and June 9, respectively, as part of the team’s preparations for the Copa America.

Jesse Marsch’s Background and Experience
Jesse Marsch, born on November 8, 1973, in Racine, Wisconsin, has extensive experience both as a player and a coach. He played 14 seasons as a midfielder in Major League Soccer (MLS) with D.C. United, Chicago Fire, and Chivas USA, winning three league titles and four U.S. Open Cup titles. He also earned two caps for the United States national team.
Transition from Player to Coach
Marsch began his coaching career in 2010 as an assistant with the U.S. national team under Bob Bradley, helping the team reach the last 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He then became the inaugural head coach of the Montreal Impact in 2012. In 2015, Marsch took over as head coach of the New York Red Bulls, where he won the Supporters’ Shield and was named MLS Coach of the Year in his first season. He holds the record for most wins by a coach in franchise history.
International Coaching Experience
In 2018, Marsch joined German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig as an assistant coach, contributing to a third-place league finish and a runner-up spot in the German Cup. He then moved to Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga, leading the team to consecutive league and cup doubles. Marsch returned to RB Leipzig for the 2021-22 season before a brief stint with Leeds United. He was appointed head coach of the Canadian national team in May 2024.
